Programme Aims

The programme aims to equip students with a sound education and training in the applications of statistical principles and techniques and computing technology to business and industry.

Upon graduation, students will be able to apply a range of statistical and information technology skills to formulate and solve business problems. Students will also be equipped with the knowledge and experience for pursuing further studies or entering job market as associate professionals.

Further Studies and Career Prospects

Graduates may be employed by a wide range of public and commercial organisations in jobs which rely on the use of statistical methods and computing techniques to analyse data related to the management and operation of the organisations. Majority of graduates are expected to enter job markets in the sector of Business, Insurance, Banking and Finance. Many of the core courses are identical to courses from year 1 and 2 of related bachelor degree programmes both locally and overseas. Graduates will be able to pursue further studies in Applied Statistics, Computing Mathematics, Operational Research and Business Finance.

Graduates could apply for the Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Computing Mathematics, in the Department of Mathematics, and the Bachelor of Business Administration (Honours) in Managerial Statistics, in the Department of Management Science, City University of Hong Kong. They could also apply for the Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Statistics and Computing, Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Actuarial Science, and Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Investment, Department of Applied Mathematics, Polytechnic University of Hong Kong.

Main Subject Areas [Programme Curriculum]

Statisticians work with theoretical and applied statistics in the private and public sectors. The core of that work is to measure, interpret, and describe the world. It is common to combine statistical knowledge with expertise in other subjects.

The programme features an appropriate combination of requirements for: (1) Foundation Mathematics (2) Information Technology, (3) Applied Statistics, (4) Business Studies and (5) Language studies.

2 years (Full-time)

Admission Requirement

  • General Entrance Requirements for Associate Degree Programmes; AND
  • Passes in HKCEE/AS/AL, must include one of the following subjects: Mathematics, Additional Mathematics, Mathematics & Statistics, Pure Mathematics and Applied Mathematics, or an equivalent,
    - OR -
    A recognized diploma/higher certificate in a relevant field,
    - OR -
    Reaches the age of 23 on September 1 in the year of admission with satisfactory work experience.
